"The Phosphorescent Samurai and the Geisha Snail"

A narrative with 4 different endings depending on choices you make along the way.

I wanted to emphasize the power of choice over consequences.

This was a walk-in interactive installation at a Burning Man "Pre-compression Party"

in San Francisco, CA.

I used an Amiga 2000 computer with lots of RAM and draped lots and lots of

black door screening around it to create an environment.

What do you Desire?

In 2004 I was commissioned to create an interactive video/computer installation. It was called “What do you Desire?” and was placed at the foot of “the Man”. Collecting the spoken answers to the question, the software mixed it with previous answers and played the mixture back. There was also a visual counterpart in projected video playing at the same time.

If you happen to be blessed or cursed with sharing a meal with more than one “Burner”

at a time you’ll hear lots of stories of quirky and/or scary things that happened.

One of my personal favorites is this:

Mark McGothigan and I were camped with a group of people sharing jerry-rigged camp showers, making meals, resting in the shade, etc. One of the ladies asked me if she could store some of her chocolate chip cookies in our cooler so, of course, I said “Yes”. As the day wore on the prospect of a chocolate chip cookie began to seem very inviting so I helped myself to one of the cookies in the cooler. I really should have known better. In retrospect, “what was  I thinking ?!!!”

The rest of the night, while I drank water by the gallon, Mark lead me by the hand from one camp to another.

I don’t remember what I saw, except that it was SPECTACULAR !!!!!
